Saving money on groceries + The difference between organic meat and pasture-raised?

Does shopping for your groceries online save you money? What's the difference between organic meat and pasture-raised meat?

Hi, my name is Matt and I work behind the scenes here at Doorganics.

Over the last month, I've been asked these two questions and I wanted to take some time to lay it all out for you.

1.) Can you save money with online grocery shopping?

First off let's talk about the supermarket. Fighting for parking, dodging shopping carts, waiting in long checkout lines. Plus, grocery stores are full of deceptive pricing and products. Grocery stores go to great lengths to keep prices low while still padding their bottom line.

Here are my top 4 reasons grocery shopping online saves you money:

  • No More Impulse Purchases - Shopping for groceries online gives you a way to avoid all of the bait to buy stuff you know you don't really need. We all know the feeling of walking through aisles and falling for those impulse buys that somehow always make their way into your cart.

  • Knowing the Total Cost Before You Buy - If you're on a budget, you can see your subtotal increase with every item you add to your cart. If you go over your budget, you can remove something from your cart to get you under budget before you're standing at the checkout counter.

  • FREE DELIVERY - Think about how much time and gas money you would save by having your groceries delivered. Now you can get off of work and head straight home to spend time with the family. You can even shop for your groceries while on the couch catching up on your favorite TV shows!

  • Comparable Prices - Beleive it or not prices for delivered groceries tend to be comparable to local grocers. With weekly sales and specials, there are many items you can get for cheaper through online grocery shopping with Doorganics. This week for example: Organic Blueberries for $2.79 compared to most grocery stores cost of $4-$5. Or Organic Broccoli for only $1.49 compared to $2.50+ at most grocery stores.

2.) What's the difference between organic meat and pasture-raised meat?

You're in the grocery store and you see grass-fed steak for sale, and you know this option is an improvement over factory farmed steak.

BUT...

If it says organic and grass-fed, it doesn't mean it's healthy or pasture raised.

Here’s a simple way to grasp the difference between the two terms: “grass-fed” refers to what an animal eats (grass) and “pasture-raised” refers to where it eats (on a pasture).

So then the question is why isn’t a grass-fed cow automatically a pasture-raised cow? Because a cow can be housed indoors all its life and not have the freedom to roam, hydrate and feed as they please.

You can taste the difference in meat that was raised on grass. The animal literally got the chance to be an animal. The meat will have more flavor because the animal ate a range of different natural foods, and because it had a chance to move around and develop its muscles.
